ABOUT

Sergio de Miguel is a Spanish pianist and composer from Vigo, Galicia, now based in Los Angeles. He blends his Galician and Spanish roots with jazz, flamenco, and classical and contemporary music elements, as well as influences from world music. He believes that melodies have a powerful storytelling quality capable of expressing emotions words cannot, a principle he strives to incorporate into his music, giving it a distinctive emotional depth and cultural richness.

He is the recipient of international honors including the 2024 ASCAP Foundation Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer Award, multiple Downbeat Magazine Awards (Best Small Jazz Combo in 2022 and 2023), the 2022 Yamaha Young Performing Artist Award, and recognition from Berklee College of Music with both the Piano Department Chair Award (2022) and the Jazz Performance Award (2021). In 2019, he received the “Prodigy” Scholarship from the Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation, presented by Emilio and Gloria Estefan.

Sergio has appeared at renowned stages such as the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas (23rd Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards), the Wang Theater and Agganis Arena in Boston, the Emmens Auditorium in Indianapolis, and the Latin Recording Academy in Miami. He has also performed in respected jazz venues including Jamboree Jazz Club (Barcelona, SP), Clarence Jazz Club (Torremolinos, SP), and Wally’s Café (Boston, MA), as well as festivals like Munijazz (La Rioja, ES), CanJazz, and NigránJazz. He has arranged and recorded for projects across the United States and Europe, including his role as arranger and pianist in De magia imperfecta by Nicolle Horbath, a work nominated for a Latin GRAMMY.

A dedicated scholar, Sergio graduated from Berklee College of Music (Boston, MA) with a double degree in Piano Performance and Film Scoring, supported by the full-tuition “Prodigy” Scholarship from the Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation. In May 2025, he completed his Master of Fine Arts in Music Composition for the Screen at Columbia College Chicago. Over the past few years, he has scored short films and is eager to expand his experience, immersing himself in the Hollywood industry and collaborating with talented professionals to grow as a composer. He also began his professional journey working with Michael Abels’ music team. Over the years, he has studied with acclaimed artists such as Kenny Barron, Aaron Parks, Fred Hersch, and Billy Childs.

In April 2023, Sergio released his debut album Atlántida, a project that fuses Galician folk music with flamenco, jazz, world music, and classical and contemporary music elements. One of the main features of the album is its cultural diversity, featuring musicians from Spain, the United States, the Dominican Republic, Bulgaria, Colombia, Japan, Cuba, and Brazil, each bringing their unique essence to create a distinctive, multicultural sound.
