PROJECTS

Sergio de Miguel’s original music fuses his Galician roots with jazz, flamenco, classical and contemporary music, as well as Latin and other world influences. His recent project Atlántida (2023) distills a wide range of influences—from traditional Galician music, flamenco, and classical and contemporary sounds, to modern and traditional jazz figures such as Brad Mehldau, Bill Evans, Chano Domínguez, Abe Rábade, Aaron Parks, and Tigran Hamasyan.

One of the defining features of Atlántida is its cultural diversity: it not only draws from these varied influences but also features musicians from Spain, the United States, the Dominican Republic, Bulgaria, Colombia, Japan, Cuba, and Brazil—artists who each bring their own essence to the project, creating a truly distinctive sound.

Sergio’s upcoming project will be a collection of 10 to 14 short works for solo piano. Each piece is its own story in its own world, exploring unique combinations of time signatures, motifs, and textures while moving fluidly between classical minimalism, modal and jazz harmonies, and the evocative language of film scoring. Inspired by composers such as Federico Mompou, Claude Debussy, Brad Mehldau, Philip Glass, and Thomas Newman, the miniatures capture fleeting emotions and distilled atmospheres, balancing intimacy with depth. Together, they form a mosaic of concise musical narratives—moments that reflect Sergio’s ongoing search for melody as a vehicle of storytelling beyond words.
